Digital News Production
What’s in your Morning Newspaper?
In this course, DNP, I expected to learn what is required as a professional news reporter, or journalist. Well, I definitely was not disappointed. Not only were my expectations met, but I learned a lot of professional ways to cover the story with less effort and making sure to be safe while doing so. This course definitely met my high expectations. I would definitely tell an aspiring journalist taking this course to make sure they make plenty of time for their research and completion of their assignments. I think that I got the most out of week three’s assignment because it really focuses on how to place my subject and the surrounding elements of my productions. I really like the breakdown of SOT. This is an important subject because even though in modern-day technology we don’t really use tapes the concept is still the same. The placement of sound bites within a story is very important and it was expressed here in-depth. If I could do this course over I would have made sure I had more time or better time management along with better location availability. I want to change these things because they would give a better overall production compared to what I had to work with for these assignments. This course definitely prepares me for my career as a professional journalist by making sure I have an understanding of what it takes to have successful production in any story I cover for future endeavors. I would definitely recommend that my fellow journalist take this course no matter the level it is a great way to refresh your craft and I think it keeps the fundamentals well-rounded in any journalist or reporter to date. I really enjoyed this course with Professor Jeff!
